DARLING COMPANION In Post-Production
Minneapolis, MN (December 3, 2010) – Werc Werk Works, the independent production and finance company helmed by CEO Elizabeth Redleaf, announced today that their third production, “The Convincer” has been selected for the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. Written by Jill Sprecher and Karen Sprecher and directed by Jill Sprecher, and starring Greg Kinnear, Alan Arkin and Billy Crudup, the film follows a desperate insurance salesman who tries to con an elderly customer out of a valuable violin. “The Convincer” will receive its World Premiere at the Eccles Theatre in Park City, UT.
“The Convincer” marks the second consecutive production by Werc Werk Works to be selected by the Sundance Film Festival, following the First Night competition premiere of Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman’s “HOWL” in 2010, which also just won the Freedom of Expression Award from the National Board of Review.
On Tuesday, Werc Werk Works’ first title, “Life During Wartime,” received two Independent Spirit Award nominations; Todd Solondz for Best Screenplay and Allison Janney for Best Supporting Actress.
In addition, the Minneapolis based company recently completed production on Lawrence Kasdan’s “Darling Companion” in conjunction with Likely Story, produced by Elizabeth Redleaf and executive produced by Christine Walker. The film stars Kevin Kline, Diane Keaton, Elisabeth Moss, Richard Jenkins, Diane Wiest, Mark Duplass and Ayelet Zurer. “Darling Companion” shares its own Sundance connection, having shot on location at the Sundance Resort in Utah. Furthermore, Werc Werk Works is also in post-production of Bela Tarr’s “The Turin Horse”.
“We could not be happier to be ending this year with a bang and starting 2011 on such a high note,” says Elizabeth Redleaf, CEO of Werc Werk Werks. “Having the dedicated work of our talented filmmakers rewarded through such distinguished accolades and selections at film festivals speaks for the quality of our movies and makes us proud of the work we produce and believe in.”
